Elegant dining on St. Croix years has been defined by Jane and David Kendrick at their restaurant Kendrick's. Located in a wonderfully restored Danish enclave in the heart of historical downtown Christiansted, chef extraordinaire David has been featured in the Discovery Channel's seriel "Great Chefs of the Caribbean," and has been reviewed in Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazines.
Chef David Kendrick's culinary interest was first sparked when he went to work for the International Food Corporation of California in 1974. To broaden his experience, he moved to the east coast of Florida, then on to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he cooked at several fine restaurants before realizing his dream of having his own place. Kendrick's Restaurant first opened in 1986 in an eighteenth century greathouse in the heart of Christiansted. Dave and his wife and partner Jane have moved to another historic location in downtown Christiansted, but the outstanding hospitality and flavors remain the same.
From Concierge.com: For inventive fare in a charming setting, reserve a table in the leafy courtyard of this historic cottage (built in 1762). Waiters pull trays of warm, fragrant rolls topped with coarse salt out of the outdoor oven. The rolls are a harbinger of yummy things to come. The piquant Champagne gazpacho has the perfect balance of spice and depth, and locally caught wahoo is served with pesto and buffalo mozzarella, highlighting the creamy texture of the fish. The self-taught chef, David Kendrick (who has been at the helm here since 1986), has won some culinary accolades, including the Discovery Channel's "Great Chefs of the World" distinction. |
